Personalized citizen support for community integration

Facilitating the social participation of seniors with disabilities to maintain an active and enriching life in society constitutes a crucial objective.

Social participation refers to a person's involvement in activities that provide them with interactions with others, in the community or in meaningful environments, in an evolving manner, according to what is desired, possible and meaningful for them. Facilitating the social participation of older adults with disabilities to maintain an active and fulfilling life in society is a crucial objective. However, a significant number of older adults find themselves restricted in their social participation due to various obstacles such as lack of time or knowledge about available resources, health problems as well as limitations in mobility, transportation or financial resources. In order to reduce these obstacles, studies have been conducted to evaluate the beneficial effects of interventions to promote social participation, including a program ofPersonalized community integration support (APIC) having so far reached more than 200 older people with disabilities.
APIC allowed me to regain the ability to make other contacts... to organize myself. It's all within me, it's me who decides... to regain my self-confidence and I see results... I can see and talk to people, get news, be happy to be part of a group, get news from society. It gave me the will to live.
APIC is a tailor-made program aimed at helping seniors identify and participate in social activities that are important to them. Each senior is assisted by a trained and supervised volunteer guide during meetings lasting approximately 3 hours every week. These activities are varied and chosen according to the interests and resources of each senior.

Studies have shown that APIC can improve the social participation and well-being of seniors, by strengthening their mobility, their interests as well as the frequency of carrying out their social and leisure activities, as well as their self-esteem. self and their motivation to remain active in their community.

This personalized program provides an innovative and promising way to promote the social participation of seniors with disabilities by offering them support adapted to their needs and interests.
